Thanksgiving Dinner and Chinese sticky rice cake 感恩節大餐與八寶飯

Sticky Rice Cake
Recipe:(for 6 people)
1. Steam 1 cup of sticky rice as regular rice.
2. Stir in a
4 oz bar of plain butter while the cooked rice is hot
3. Chop 1/2 cup dry or fresh fruit (i.e., dry cranberry, raisins, pineapple, tangerine)
4. Stir chopped fruit into the rice
5. Take a round bowl (the first bowl), shape 2/3 of the rice on the wall of the bowl
6. Put half can of red bean paste in the center of the shaped rice
7. Cover the cake with the remaining 1/3 of the rice
8. Steam the rice cake again for another 3 minutes (just warm up)
9. Invert a second bowl on the first bowl and turn them over to make a round cake
10. Serve it when it is hot



















感恩節類似中國的新年,是全家團聚的一天。由於汽油的降價 (從年初的 $4.8 降到今天 $1.93 一加崙),許多家庭得以駕車或搭機,跨州與家人吃晚餐。我們通常不在假日出遊,因此一個高中同學邀請我們與他們全家 20 多人一同聚餐。








他們家目前有 16 頭山羊和十多隻雞。
平日到處可見的火雞,今天當然是桌上見啦。

主人家烤了兩隻大火雞,我們則準備了八寶飯、自種的南瓜子、和蔓越莓果汁汽水。大家都是第一次吃八寶飯,所以銷路很不錯。由於食材缺乏,經過改良,除了糯米是買的之外,儘量用自產的乾果 (例如蔓越莓、葡萄乾)、新鮮水果 (鳳梨、橘子),和紅豆泥。

南瓜派是第二主角,餐桌上有好幾種南瓜派,還有核桃派,蘋果派,櫻桃派,水果蛋糕。


















沙拉、餡料、馬鈴薯泥‧‧‧滿桌的食物,大孩子們吃完一輪,到外面盪一會兒鞦韆,再進屋吃第二輪、第三輪‧‧‧難怪需要烤兩隻火雞了
